According to this article in the New York Times Apple sold more than 4 million iPhone 4S in the first weekend. That figure is more than double the 1.7 million units of the iPhone 4 that Apple sold during its first three days on the market in June of last year. Some of our wholesale customers have already reported getting their first iPhone 4S in for repair. It wont be long before before a customer is walking in your door with one that has a cracked screen. Our shipment is running behind but our iPhone 4S parts should be here tomorrow.

I just tracked my iPhone 4S and it is on the UPS truck headed my way as I type. In more important news, iFixit has released their teardown of the iPhone 4S. As always, they have a very good teardown, great information, and high resolution pictures of the iPhone 4S insides. For all of you doing iPhone repair, this new iPhone is a blessing. One iPhone for all 3 carriers means only one set of parts and much easier and less expensive inventory management. Testing of the iPhone should be much easier thanks to the SIM card and the iPhone 4S is basically the same design as the iPhone 4 you are all so familiar with repairing. I just found out that the difference of the iPhone 4S Screen to the iPhone 4 Screen.
The iPhone 4S LCD and Digitizer are the same as the iPhone 4 LCD and Digitizer. My source is telling me that the Glass and Frame are different on the iPhone 4S. Im not sure what is different about the glass. I will try to find out more soon and get some pictures.
On the iPhone 4S back cover I’m being told the Frame and Glass are the same but the engraving and camera lens are different.

I’m going to do my best to pass on what info I have about iPhone 4S parts as quickly as possible. I was able to get my hands on some info today about which parts are currently available, pricing and some low quality images.
iPhone 4S LCD Screen Assembly. Im still not sure if it’s the same as the iPhone 4S. Based on our cost, the retail price for the Original iPhone 4S Screen will start at $117.99. This is only $10 more than our current price for original iPhone 4 screens. No pricing for reproduction screens at this time.
iPhone 4S Back cover. Our starting retail price for this is going to be $55.99, about $10 more than our original iPhone 4 back. Based on what I think is an iPhone 4S midframe I have, I’m fairly sure the Verizon iPhone 4 Back cover will fit on the iPhone 4S but we’ll have to wait and see. No pricing for reproduction backs at this time.

iPhone 4S Headphone jack. Starting retail $25.99
iPhone 4S Battery. Starting retail $28.99

Although the new iPhone 4S is cool, I’m more excited about iOS 5 and iCloud. This will be the first time I dont run out and get the new iPhone on release day. I just dont think the 8mp Camera and A5 chip are enough to pay the in-contract upgrade fee.
The new iPhone 4S is extremely similar to the iPhone 4. What does that mean to all of my beloved wholesale customers doing iPhone repair around the country? I think its great. It still has a Glass front and back!!!!!!! Who knows, maybe the screens are the same as iPhone 4. Maybe not. Either way, you know how to repair it, and now its selling on another carrier. Fantastic! We do know that many of the internal parts are going to be different on the iPhone 4S and you can be sure we will be working diligently to get all available iPhone 4S parts in stock as soon as possible.
Apple hasn’t even announced a release date for the next iPhone but we are already being offered parts for the iPhone 5 (iPhone 4S). We can buy the iPhone 5 Screen assembly, dock connector, power button, camera, mid-frame, and more. We are NOT going to buy any of these parts just yet but you can be sure we will have iPhone 5 Parts before you need them. The reason we are waiting(you should too) is that sometimes the parts offered early are a prototype and may be slightly different. One thing interesting about the iPhone 5 screen is that it has an additional passthrough next to the ear speaker hole. Its been reported to be an indicator light. Lets hope we find out soon! I’m ready for my next iPhone and even more anxious for iOS 5!
I have seen the Dock assembly, Battery, and Mid Frame for the iPhone 5. Its clear the iPhone 5 will be the same size as the iPhone 4. I’m fairly certain the rumors about the next iPhone having only minor improvements are true. The difference between the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 4 will be similar to the difference between the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Dont get me wrong, I’m still looking forward to it and will be getting one on the release date if at all possible.
The other good news for all of you that repair iPhones for a living is, we can be fairly certain the difficulty level of repair will be about the same and the repair volume should stay fairly stable.
So whats it going to be called? iPhone 5, iPhone 4GS, iPhone 4S? I was originally going with iPhone 4S but have recently change my mind. I think they will continue with the iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPhone 6 theme. Only time will tell.
One thing is for sure, you can count on us to have iPhone 5 repair parts.
